And now for the answers to this weeks questions:

Which Sarah Dessen couple works for Wish Catering?
a) Annabel and Owen
b) Macy and Wes
c) Remy and Dexter
d) Ruby and Nate

This question comes from:

The other characters are all from other Sarah Dessen novels that I have read.

What famous YA couple had the following conversation:
(Person A) “Don't touch any of my weapons without my permission."
(Person B) "Well, there goes my plan for selling them all on eBay,"
(Person A) "Selling them on what?"
(Person B) "A mythical place of great magical power.”

a) Jace and Clary
b) Magnus and Alec
c) Will and Tessa
d) Jem and Jessie

This question comes from:

The first two couples are from the Mortal Instrument series and the second two sets of characters are from Infernal Devices series.

In Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr, who is Aislinn most likely to pick as her Valentine?

a) Keenan
b) Seth
c) Donia
d) Beira

This question comes from (okay this one may be a little obvious):

All of the character names come from Wicked Lovely.

Which of the following YA characters are not partnered correctly?
a) Brittany Ellis/Alex Fuentas
b) McLean Sweet/Dave Wade
c) Ronald Weasley/Hermione Granger
d) Lizzie Bennet/Charles Bingley

The correct answer for this question comes from:

The incorrect answers are from Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles, What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen, and Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling.

a) Morganville, Texas
b) Vampire Academy

This question came from the following series:

a) Tunes for Lovers
b) Anger Management
c) The Midnight Hour
d) The Rush Hour

This question comes from (again I think it may be obvious):

When I first heard the name of Owen's show I literally laughed-out-loud so it stuck out to me. I always remember it. The only other one that comes from a book (that I am aware of) is The Midnight Hour from Kitty and the Midnight Hour by Carrie Vaughn.

In what series do Yelena and Valek fall in love?
a) Castor Chronicles by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
b) Wings by Aprilynne Pike
c) Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
d) Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

I do not have many keeper books--but this series has been a keeper for me. Until I loan it out to everyone I know!

Remember, it did not matter whether the answer was right or wrong but I do want to know what you thought of the questions. How did you do on them?

Jen and I are planning to do another trivia game in March to celebrate The Hunger Games movie release. So please come back an play again.

Q: I like unique names for characters and am looking forward to coming up with some when I start writing. What's the most unique character name you've come across?

First, I want to go on record as saying that unique names can sometimes frustrate me. If I cannot easily pronounce the name (or easily determine how to pronounce the name) then it throws off my reading rhythm and slows me down. Rather quickly I translate the name in my mind to something that is easier for me to pronounce as I am reading. So rather than seeing Eglantina, I call the character E or Atlanta. The advantage is that my reading rhythm is not affected. The disadvantage is I have a hard time talking with people about the books because the character names (in my head) are not the ones in everyone elses. Or I spend a lot of time ensuring that my reviews include the correct spelling for the name--not my shortened or simplified version.

But I do like names that are not necessarily common but still very easy--such as Jace. When any of us say Jace, we typically know what character (and consequently what book) without a lot of explanation. Names like John or Mary are so common that we need to be very clear about which John or which Mary or which book that includes John and/or Mary we are talking about.  And I have found that people are really good at picking out these names (and identifying them) as I have been running my YA Couple Trivia Quiz.

What character names do you find really identify the specific book in your mind without a lot of extra information?

Please stop by my 300 follower giveaway before you hop on through.  :)

Q: Which book genre do you avoid at all costs and why?

I do not have a genre that I avoid at all costs, but I do notice that my favorite genre seems to swift from time to time.  I will go through phases where I read almost exclusively YA and then a lot of classics and then a lot of different adult books.  So many books catch my attention that it is hard to say that I would not find at least one book in that genre that I like!

Lately, it seems to be a lot of YA books.  And I am hosting a giveaway for one of the books that I think will be my favorite for 2012:

What book has surprised you the most?  Maybe you thought you would not like it and did or maybe you thought you would love it and did not?

The Book Addict Review and Giveaway: Under The Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

Genre: Young Adult, Science Fiction, Dystopian
Order Online: Amazon.com
Author Info: Website | Goodreads
Rating: 4 stars
Bought this book and had it signed by the author at The Dark Days of Supernatural tour stop.

In A Nutshell:
It's hard to determine my best book of 2012 in January, but Under the Never Sky may very well be the one for me!

Review:
Aria has been falsely convicted--exiled and left to wander alone under the Aether Storms.  Perry has been forced to leave--left to get his kidnapped nephew back.  Their separate upbringings has led them to initially distrust each other--but their circumstances force them to work together.  As their group grows, as they have to escape large groups who want to kill them, as they dodge dangerous Aether Storms--they learn that they may not be as different as they initially thought.

The artist in Veronica Rossi comes out in her striking and visually-compelling descriptions of the world she has created.  The sights, the smells, and the sounds come together to draw the reader into the story--makes them feel like they are part of the group.  I could not stop turning the pages as the characters (who I started to think of as my friends) covered treacherous terrain, dodged cannibalistic covens, tricked their way into guarded pods, learned the truth about themselves, their backgrounds, and their talents.

The only thing that killed me is when it ended--I wanted more.  I cannot wait for the next book in the series to come out and tell me what happens next.  This book ended in a cliff-hanger of all cliff-hangers!  The next installment cannot come fast enough for me!

Recommendations:
Since I think this may be my favorite book of 2012--I do not have a recommendation but a giveaway to share the wealth and the experience!

Where Have I Been? Re-Launch Party and Giveaway

No I was not kidnapped by aliens or vampires or ruffians.  I got a new job.  A job that has been taking a lot of my time and attention.  But this weekend, I made a promise to myself that I had to get back to doing some of the things that I loved to do--and not just think about work all of the time.  So I am re-dedicating myself to being here more often to blog about books.

As I get back into the groove of things, you may notice a couple of changes.  First, I really want to focus on reading some of the books I have at home and not focus solely on new titles.  To this end, I will be reviewing at least one book a week that I have at home that has been in print for more than a year.  Second, I want to bring back my books to movie reviews.  To this end, I will be reviewing at least one movie that is based on a book (generally a book I have read previously).  Finally, I have made a goal to read more short stories/novellas, so I want to review at least one of them a week as well.  These are ambitious goals--but I will definitely enjoy the journey to meet these goals.

But for the moment, I want to celebrate my Re-Launch party so I am going to do a giveaway for a $15 e-gift card to Amazon.

For this giveaway, I want you all to comment in this post and tell me what book or short story or novella you have really loved this year that you think I should read (you can have up to 3 entries by listing three separate books--and you can link to your reviews of the books if you have one).  I will make it my goal to work through all of the books listed.  For extra entries, you can also tweet about this giveaway/call for suggestions and leave a comment with the tweet's url (limit one additional entry per day).

The giveaway will close on November 18, 2011.

GIVEAWAY & Author Interview: Shelby & Shauna Kitt and the Dimensional Holes by P.H.C. Marchesi (closed)

I want to express my sincerest thanks to P.H.C. Marchesi for participating in my first author interview and providing me with a signed copy of Shelby and Shauna Kitt and the Dimensional Holes to use in my first giveaway.

BA: What was your inspiration for writing Shelby and Shauna Kitt and the Dimensional Holes?
PHC: As a young teen, I moved with my family from Brazil to Austria.  I remember very well the sense of excitement I felt upon learning that I'd be going to an unknown place, where the culture, the language, and even the climate were completely different.  I really did think I was embarking on a great adventure, and it's those feelings I drew on when I wrote Shelby and Shauna Kitt and the Dimensional Holes.  I wanted to convey the sense of boundless potential and achievement that characterizes this period in our lives, but I wanted to do so within the genre of fantasy/sci-fi, which I have always loved.  So I came up with the world of Miriax, which combines elements of the different countries and cultures I experienced growing up.

BA: What was your favorite book when you were Shelby and Shauna's age?
PHC: Michael Ende's The Neverending Story.  I just loved the idea that you could (literally) get into the story.  Somehow that really resonated with me.  It still does, because imagination is a very powerful thing: it allows you to travel to worlds where you can have the most incredible adventures and become who you truly want to be.  Imagination lets you confront your fears and shortcomings, and learn what it takes to become a her.  The Neverending Story depicts that process.

BA: If you could visit Miriax, what would be your first stop?
PHC: I think I'd rush over to the Mushroom Tea House and Grand Avenue to have some Mirian explosive mushrooms and lilac tea, and then pretty much sample everything else!

P.H.C. Marchesi has a wonderful blog where she talks about Shelby, Shauna, her musings as a writer, and other projects she is working on.  I encourage you all to visit her

Now you can win a signed copy of Shelby and Shauna Kitt and the Dimensional Holes.
